We believe that Open Design is a new approach in design innovation and matters in the way we want to see and act in this world. More than an aesthetic movement we understand Open Design as a creative strategy and co-creation model. Inherent is a foundation for designers to work together, however, it also has an impact on how we deal with recourses and local crafts and therefore stimulating local economy. The Open Design Contest is an experiment in open design where contestants upload entries consisting of at least a blueprint, a photo of the self-made end product, and a tutorial that allows others to re-make the design. An Open Design Contest seems the perfect platform to spread the idea and enable both students and professional designers to gain experience in this field and use the creative commons license system to contribute to a system beyond intellectual property restrictions.
